Job Description: Manual Lathe Machinist
Qualifications:
To be considered for the Manual Machinist position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements:
A certificate or diploma from a trade school is preferred.
Substantial experience in conventional machining (CNC-only experience is insufficient).
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience using manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and balance machines.
Familiarity with working on lathes featuring 24" - 72" chucks and using Bridgeport-type mills with a 48" table is advantageous.
Experience in a motor shop is preferred, but candidates with machining experience in machine job shops, oil fields, or similar industrial settings will also be considered.
Preference is given to those with experience machining electric motors or generators of 200 HP or larger (pump machining experience may substitute).
Proficiency in interpreting correct tolerance class to .0002" for machined fits is mandatory.
Candidates must have their own tools, including basic hand tools, micrometers, dial calipers, indicators, etc.
Additional welding and/or brazing experience is a plus, though not obligatory.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions, exhibit initiative, and work independently is vital.
Physical requirements include lifting up to 75 lbs safely, working around machinery with moving parts, prolonged standing and walking, utilization of hand and power tools, and operation of an overhead crane.
Candidates must maintain a drug-free status and be subject to periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
A clean criminal background check is obligatory.
Job Responsibilities:
Operate manual lathes (vertical and horizontal), mills, and balance machines (CNC machines are not used).
Choose appropriate tools and speeds for machining tasks.
Execute setup and runout checks on various components such as rotors, armatures, housings, and other parts.
Utilize engine lathes, mills, drill presses, and occasionally grinders for machining and fabricating parts.
Achieve precise measurements and record machined part fits with exceptional precision (0.0002") using micrometers or calipers.
Machine threads, turn and undercut commutators, bore and bush endbells.
Remove or install specific parts for machining or balancing purposes.
Generate accurate drawings for parts requiring fabrication.
Initiate orders for necessary materials.
