Buyer

 

Summary/Objective:

The Buyer will plan, direct, and control activities related to the procurement of raw materials, components, tooling, equipment, and purchased services.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with forecasting materials requirements and maintain optimum inventory levels to insure smooth manufacturing flow within financial guidelines.
  • Use MRP software to manage the ordering of stock materials (quantities and timing) to ensure sufficient supplies to meet production requirements.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date parts master database within the ERP System.
  • Participate in annual and cycle inventory counts and ensure accurate recording of unit inventories
  • Place orders for special, non-stock parts to meet critical production demands.
  • Place orders for other products and services as needed
  • Sources and negotiates with potential supplier, requests RFQ's, evaluates and analyzes results and recommends suppliers.
  • Confirms and verifies pricing and delivery dates with suppliers and updates information, as necessary
  • Expedites open purchase order deliveries to meet production needs.
  • Evaluate and maintain a minimum and maximum and safety stock levels.

  • Computer proficiency with programs including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.  A self-starter who looks for better ways to get more accomplished without having to be assigned.

No Supervisory responsibilities

 

 

Work environment:
  • Includes prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.  Occasionally required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.

 

Physical Demands:
  • Includes occasional periods of standing and/or walking.  Must be able to navigate the warehouse and reach items both high and low.  Requires visual acuity to inspect products.  Occasionally will be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.  Ability to lift and/or move 60 pounds.  May include bending, stooping, climbing, reaching, kneeling, crouching, squatting, or crawling.

 

 

No Travel Required

 

 

Required education and experience
  • 1 year experience in a Purchasing dept.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with ERP and MRP software
  • Solid understanding of purchasing operations, generating purchase orders, supplier communications, shipping and logistics, inventory, and order decisions

 

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Completion of an APICS/ISM/Supply Chain certification program
  • Understanding of and experience with electrical components and concepts
  • 3 years of experience in a Purchasing Department
